Significance of Advent Candles
Four candles are lit on every advent Sunday. Every candle has its own significance. The candles are of different colors symbolizing different meanings. The first candle is mostly purple that symbolizes hope and happiness. The reason is the prophets were eagerly waiting for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. The second candle is also purple but it represents Christian faith. This also indicates journey of Mother Mary and St. Joseph towards Bethlehem. The next candle lit on the third Sunday of advent is pink and it reminds us of the joy that the world will soon experience. This candle is also known as the candle of Shepherds. The fourth and the final week of advent is celebrated by lighting purple candle. This candle stands for prayer and peace.
